How it all started

Growing up in India and moving abroad permanently changed my world… but it didn’t change that feeling.
If anything, it made me miss it more.

No matter how many boutiques I explored, or online stores I scrolled through, nothing came close to the rare, handcrafted, designer Indian pieces that are tucked away deep in Indian Bazaars often impossible to find unless you know someone who knows someone to tell you where it is.

So I created NavKaniyas as a bridge between worlds:
a place where unique, handcrafted Indian designerwear could be imagined, crafted, and shared with women everywhere — no matter how far from home, culture, or roots they might be.

Every piece we make is handcrafted, intentionally designed, and carries the soul of the generational artisans who create them. The kind of pieces your nani would approve of, your best friend would try to steal, and your heart would instantly recognize as home.

Why NavKaniyas?

The name came to me long before the brand took form —
born from a vision of Nav Durga, the nine divine avatars of Maa Durga,
each one a reminder of the strength, grace, and wisdom that lives within every woman.

These nine forms represent nine journeys… nine lessons… nine reflections of who we are and who we can become.

In that vision, I saw the essence of the modern woman:
soft yet unbreakable, graceful yet powerful, rooted yet ever-evolving.

That is why NAV — inspired by the nine goddesses who guide us.
And KANIYAS — every woman who wears our NavKaniyas will feel powerful, graceful, and connected to her roots — like a “new woman,” a revived version of the vibrant kaniya within her.
